O'Hern House is located in a mixed residential/commercial neighborhood at the eastern edge of Downtown Atlanta. The program is housed in a historic building that was once a shoe factory. The 80-year old, 4-story building provides each resident with a simple room that is furnished with a bed and dresser.  Most rooms have a private bath. The maximum number of residents is 76. Residents are homeless single adults who have a chronic mental illness. Many also have a substance abuse problem. Laundry facilities are available as well as a central dining facility which serves three meals a day and an evening snack. Support staff are available 24-hours a day, and an intensive rehabilitation program is available on a voluntary basis to residents who may wish to participate.
The program also features an exciting schedule of recreational events. The building has security 24-hours a day. Rent is based on 30% of a residents income, however a person does not have to have an income to be admitted.
